With the 2014 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado hitting showrooms across the country, is the redesigned truck living up to it's expectations?
Heavier towing capacity, better fuel economy, more power,
luxury amenities and technology that would rival a German automobile. There's no doubt that the 2014 line of GM
light-duty pickup trucks has been touted as the best in the industry on
multiple levels, but has this $ 45,000 fully loaded behemoth lived up to the
hype?
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 Sierra both received
all new engines from GM's new and improved EcoTec3 line. Engine options include a powerful, redesigned
4.3-liter overhead-valve V6 rated at 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. The redesigned 5.3-liter V8 engine is rated
at 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque on regular gasoline. The premium-gas optimized 6.2-liter V8
returns a class-leading 420 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. All three engines include 3 essential
fuel-saving features, Active Fuel Management (AFM) cylinder deactivation, Direct Injection and Variable Valve Timing (VVT). These three essential features allow the 2014
GMC Sierra and Silverado to return an EPA-Estimated 24 mpg HWY in the 2wd, V6
configuration.
Continuing the trend of innovation, 2014 GMC Sierra and
Silverado receive a 6-speed transmission with tow/haul mode for when increased
control and power is needed. Never
before has GM mated a V6 to a six-speed box, but this combo returns an
EPA-Estimated 24mpg HWY.
In addition to the updated mechanics, the 2014 Sierra and
Silverado both received exterior restyling with an emphasis on
aerodynamics. A more protruding front
grille and hood as high as Sierra 2500HD.
LED accented and projector style headlights are standard on Sierra SLE
and SLT trims and optional on Silverado.
Rear bumper steps to aid in access to the bed along with LED lights
under the bed rail to improve visibility are also included standard with the
truck owner in mind.
Inside the cab, probably the most noticeable redesign yet is
unveiled starting with a completely new dashboard, center console and larger
rear seat in Crew Cab models.
Additionally, extended cab models now include front hinged doors making
rear access easier. Technology is
centered around an optional 8" center touch screen featuring GMC MyLink
software with Bluetooth, XM, HD Radio, optional navigation and more.
The 2014 GMC Sierra and Silverado truly lived up to its name
of quality and reliability with the most recent model year. Never before has a truck with such fuel
economy yet brute power and towing capacity been released from a GM factory,
and it is truly class-leading in all aspects.
